Waterfall Photoshoot in the Costa Rican Jungle: A Unique Experience!

by | May 11, 2023 | Costa Rica Excursions

Imagine entering a magical new world deep in the quiet brilliance that is the Costa Rican rainforest. Brilliant blue morpho butterflies dance through the jungle and playful monkeys leap from branch to branch high up in the canopy. Lazy lizards flick their tongues at passing bugs.

And best of all…your destination is a hidden jewel tucked into the verdant green foliage that makes up the jungle. A pristine waterfall falls from a height of 120 feet to the jungle floor. Step in front of my lens and capture the magic with your very own waterfall photoshoot in Costa Rica!

The Location

I’ve set up this photoshoot at a waterfall near Manuel Antonio to be super easy for you. The only thing you have to do is book the experience, pick out your outfits, and the rest is taken care of!

I’ll pick you up from your hotel or villa in the Quepos/Manuel Antonio area and we will head out into the rainforest together. Once we get out of town, the road gets a little bumpy, but that’s just part of the experience!

As we drive, keep your eyes open because it’s common to spot beautiful blue morpho butterflies shimmering in the sunlight, along with tropical plants and maybe even some monkeys!

Couple's waterfall photoshoot adventure

When we arrive, you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped into another world. We’ll be visiting the grounds at Los Campesinos EcoLodge. Rest assured, this is not some fancy attraction with huge luxury lodges like you would see at La Paz Waterfall — this is the real deal run by a group of hardworking Costa Ricans.

The property boasts a few rustic but comfortable cabins for those who would like to stay the night. However, the part we’re interested in is the nature.

The property at Los Campesinos is bursting with native flora and fauna of the Costa Rican rainforest. Bring a good pair of shoes (I recommend these ones) to take a stroll along the 3.5 kilometers (or less if preferred) of hiking trails. Little signs are dotted along the trail naming some of the plants for an enriching experience.

Of course, the stars of the show are the hanging bridges and the waterfall. So let’s dive into the adventure.

The Adventure

A short walk down a well-maintained trail brings you to the foot of a massive 120-foot-tall waterfall. The pristine river water rushes over the edge of the cliff and spills onto the forest floor in front of you.

A cool, clear pool forms at the base, offering travelers a refreshing respite from the warm tropical air.

If you prefer a bird’s eye view, take a stroll over the waterfall on a hanging bridge stretching more than a hundred feet from beginning to end. I took this image of the waterfall while standing on the hanging bridge — it’s an amazing view for sure!

The Memories

And what’s the best part of this waterfall photoshoot experience? The memories you’ll hold in your head and hands once it’s all over!

Are you a senior in high school looking for unique senior photos? A family looking for beautiful memories (and epic Christmas card photos)? Or maybe you’re a wedding couple looking for a unique place to commemorate your special day.

This couple came for a photoshoot and she walked away with a ring on her finger that she wasn’t expecting!

Whoever you are, we’ll make some amazing images together! You can be as calm or as crazy as you like. Some clients have been up for images from the hanging bridge over the falls or jumping into the pool at the base of the waterfall. Others have preferred more stately images with the beauty of the falls in the background.

Whatever your vision, I’m happy to bring it to life. I just love taking photographs and I’m excited to take some stunning photographs together!

The Tastiness

Before we head back to your hotel, we’ll stop at Los Campesinos’ restaurant. Again, this is the real deal so prepare your taste buds for a traditional Costa Rican casado. This is home-cooked Costa Rican food using recipes that have been passed down for generations and many of the ingredients are grown right on the property.

To top it off, delight in a glass of fresh-squeezed fruit juice featuring whatever delicious tropical fruit happens to be in season. Even after many years of living in Costa Rica, these folks have managed to surprise me with a delicious fruit I hadn’t heard of yet!
